A 96-year-old woman was killed and three other people were injured in
the collapse of the interior section of a building this weekend in
Havana, the official Cubadebate Web site reported.

The collapse occurred on Friday, when a portion of the structure above a
room gave way in the densely populated 10 de Octubre neighborhood.

Two families lived in the building, Cubadebate said.

A girl was among the injured, all of whom were hospitalized and listed
in stable condition, Cubadebate said.

Housing shortages and the poor condition of buildings are among the main
social and economic problems in Cuba.

Havana, a city of 2 million, needs about 28,000 housing units to
accommodate those seeking housing and people living in buildings that
are in poor condition, official figures show. EFE
